from an idea to an experience

As an experienced wedding planner, Amy Rubins owner of Fete Perfection, receives dozens of inquiries each week from men, women and recent brides asking for advice on how to break into the wedding planning business. After speaking with many aspiring planners, Amy realized they had the idea that wedding planning was glamorous and easy as portrayed on television and in movies. With twelve years experience, Amy can say wedding planning is very rewarding however it is not easy and it is not glamorous.

While trying to respond with advice and recommendations to aspiring planners, Amy realized that while there are numerous educational opportunities and certification courses, there is not an introduction to the world of wedding planning. Amy’s goal was to offer a realistic look at planning by creating an intensive and challenging workshop that exposes students to dozens of situations one would encounter on a typical wedding day. In addition to have students hear from industry leading wedding vendors who offer their perspective on working with brides, grooms and wedding planners.

Amy wanted to provide a realistic experience similar to an actual wedding day, therefore planned and prepared a twelve hour workshop. Amy held her first Weducation Workshop in March, 2010. Students heard Amy outline the steps needed to properly establish a new business, including writing a business plan, setting up a website, branding your image, business ethics, preparing contracts, obtaining insurance and much more.

Throughout the day students heard from a variety of wedding professionals including photographer, videographer, invitation company, DJ, caterer, florist and wedding cake baker. The workshop also offered practical hands-on experiences with a trip to a local linen and decor rental to walk through the showroom and warehouse and hear from their sales coordinator regarding tips and advice on working with budgets of all sizes.

Students learned proper techniques for cake cutting and were provided instruction in setting up extra banquet tables in case unexpected guests arrived to a wedding reception. The caterer offered a delicious example of a menu tasting and everyone enjoyed the cake tasting that followed.

At the conclusion of a very long but successful day, Amy realized Weducation Workshops was the perfect introduction to wedding planning and looked at ways to expand this opportunity to students nationwide. Two additional workshops have been held throughout 2010 and the content of these two workshops combined is shown in the online membership available right here.

It is our goal to continually update workshops to include fresh new content and topics pertinent to members and to provide exposure to upcoming talent within the wedding world. We hope you enjoy Weducation Workshops and will take away valuable information contained in each of our video presentations.
